The UAE digital government has confirmed that the country’s laws prohibit the employment of children under the age of 15, while those aged 15 to 18 are allowed to work based on certain conditions and after obtaining a work permit for juveniles from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

She stated that citizens and resident expatriate students aged 15 and over can work and receive training at approved work facilities in the country, provided they write a contract explaining the nature of work and other related matters, noting that there are 4 conditions for students to work during the summer vacation.

Regarding work permits for students and their training in private sector facilities, the government indicated that since 2016, the UAE government has issued several decisions allowing students to work and receive training in facilities operating in the country, the latest of which was Ministerial Resolution No. (519) of 2018 regarding the controls and conditions for training and employment of students, According to this decision, any licensed facility in the country can train students from the age of 15 and over, provided that there is a written contract, and the contract must include: the areas of training, the training period, the dates of weekly trips and other vacations, the value of the reward, if any, and any benefits granted to the trainee.

Any facility may also employ students who have reached the age of 15 and over, during their study leave, for a period not exceeding three months at a time.

She stated that there are 4 conditions for employing or training the student, in addition to the general conditions found in Article 5 of the UAE Labor Law, including:

Provide proof of student status, Emirates ID card, valid residency in the country, for the foreign student wishing to train or work, a no-objection certificate from the educational authority to which the student belongs in the event of training, knowing that the trainee or working student is not entitled to an end bonus Service, or any leave except within the limits stipulated in the contract
