Bahrain: Amendments to the rights of retirees and insured persons

During the meeting, which dealt with the importance of pension funds and ensuring their sustainability to preserve the rights of retirees and participants and ensure their ability to fulfill their future obligation

Chaired by Her Excellency Mrs. Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy, the services committees of the House of Representatives and the Shura Council and the government team held a joint meeting today remotely, with the participation of members of the two committees and representatives of the Ministry of Finance and National Economy. and the General Authority for Social Insurance.

During the meeting, which dealt with the importance of pension funds and ensuring their sustainability to preserve the rights of retirees and participants and ensure their ability to fulfill their future obligations, it was emphasized to extend the life of the pension funds, ensure their sustainability and preserve the rights of retirees and insured persons. The amendments include the following:

1- No reduction in pensions
2- No change to the normal retirement age
3- Addition of five optional incentive years above the normal retirement age for those who wish to reach a retirement pension of 90%
4- Entering non-Bahrainis by calculating the end-of-service gratuity in the social insurance system
