Dubai-based Salem Al Makrani Shipping Company confirmed that one of its ships sank off the coast of Iran and that Iranian authorities had sent a boat to rescue its 30-member crew.

A spokesman told "Reuters": "Sixteen people have been rescued from the water and there are still 11 in a lifeboat and two in the water."

The company said the ship sank due to bad weather. The spokesman added that the company is in contact with the authorities of the port of Asalouyeh in Iran, as well as the Bahraini air rescue services, if necessary.
The Emirati ship, carrying cars, sank 30 miles from the Iranian port of Asalouyeh.
