The UAE government has set four basic requirements to apply for a “student visa”, for international students coming from abroad to enroll in universities, colleges and higher education institutions in the UAE,which is an official acceptance letter from one of the universities accredited in the country, if the student is a newcomer, and a certificate of continuity in study. For old students, a medical fitness test from one of the government medical centers in the Emirates, a sponsor for the student’s visa, either the university itself or one of the parents or a relative, and finally the final approval of the visa application by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs.
She stated that the student's visa is issued for a period of one year only, renewable for a similar period after submitting an official proof of continuity of study issued by a higher education institution in the UAE, where the student is studying.
A student visa in the UAE can be provided either by the parents of resident expatriate students who sponsor their children, or by one of the universities or colleges accredited in the country. Applications for entry permits, visas and visas are submitted through the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in the concerned emirate.
Universities and colleges accredited in the UAE can submit visa applications for their accepted students, whether international students or expatriates currently residing in the country.
She pointed out that admission to a university in the UAE does not guarantee the issuance of a visa, as the issuance of an entry permit and/or a student visa is subject to certain requirements, including passing a medical fitness test, and approval of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, including a security examination.
