Legal Counsel, Dr. Youssef Al-Sharif, warned of the punishment prescribed for crimes that occur through social media accounts, as there is a legal responsibility on the “admin” who is the person who manages the account in the event of crimes punishable by law, including deliberately manipulating digital evidence and hiding it from the eyes of enforcement officials the law.
Al-Sharif cautioned that the Rumors and Cybercrime Law sets a penalty on the person responsible for the accounts on social networking sites in the event that a crime punishable by law occurs through these accounts, including deliberately tampering, concealing or changing evidence of a crime.
He said that the Rumors Law in Article (18) specified a text related to the role of this official in the event of tampering with digital evidence, and stipulated that “he shall be punished by imprisonment for a period of no less than six months and a fine of no less than 200,000 dirhams, or one of these two penalties, each responsible for managing A website, including account holders on social media, or an account on a computer network, e-mail, or information system, that has hidden or tampered with digital evidence, for one of the crimes stipulated in this Decree-Law, with the intent of impeding the work of research, investigation, investigation or other competent authorities ».
