The Arabian Gulf University has completed the necessary procedures for registering intellectual property regarding the discovery of the genetic code of the Corona virus and the development of a new vaccine against the virus.

Dr. Khaled bin Abdul Rahman Al-Ohali, President of the University, said that this discovery was made by the grace of God and then by the efforts of a specialized scientific research team led by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Dahmani Fathallah, Professor of the King Fahd Chair for Biomedical Technologies at the Arabian Gulf University, who is specialized in molecular biology, genetic engineering and biomedical technologies. A research team in the Department of Life Sciences, College of Graduate Studies.

This discovery came through a research and development project with the support and funding of the university, during which the immunity that gives natural protection against the Corona virus was decoded by identifying parts of the surface albumin that the virus uses to break into cells, which leads to the production of effective antibodies that protect against disease in more than 80% of patients. Those infected with the Corona virus.

The research team reached this pivotal discovery by studying the autoimmunity that formed in 500 people infected with the virus in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and this discovery opened the way for the development of the new generation of Corona vaccines, as the date of November 29, 2021 is considered the date of registration of the patent with the American Intellectual Property Organization Priority date of the Arab Gulf University vaccine against corona disease.
