The Ministry of Health and Community Protection signed a memorandum of understanding with the global organization specialized in health care supply chain standards, to prevent the entry of counterfeit health products, increase patient safety and compliance with regulations, and enhance the safety of medical and pharmaceutical products, as traceability standards provide a unified and approved mechanism in the health care sector and supporting systems to ensure transparency Data for each medicinal product.

Under the agreement, the Ministry applies global tracking standards to medicines and medical products through the smart and innovative tracking platform Tatmeen “Tatmeen”, using standard GS1 serial barcodes, which helps to scan pharmaceutical products with barcode readers in pharmacies and hospitals, and identify counterfeit medicines, which provides a reassurance platform. The stakeholders in the supply chain have the ability to track the movement of medicines, and it also allows community members to verify medicines using smart phone applications.
