Android users need to check their smartphone or tablet to see if they have downloaded a number of malicious apps from the Google Play Store, including one popular TV service.

This time, alarm bells sounded about the "Smart TV Remote" and "Halloween Coloring" applications, as the first application from the Google Play store was downloaded at least 1,000 times. Highlighting these dangerous Android apps, Tatiana Shishkova, an Android malware analyst at Kaspersky, said the apps are being used to spread the notorious "Joker" malware.

The "Joker" was first seen in 2019, and has become a favorite choice for cyber crooks trying to deceive unsuspecting Android users.

The dangerous "Trojan horse" is designed to be extremely difficult for Google's security systems to detect, and is also capable of enrolling victims in expensive subscription plans.

These plans can end up costing Android users hundreds of pounds each month unless they discover something is wrong and end up canceling the bogus subscriptions they didn't even sign up for.

Earlier this week, Shishkova named and shamed these apps on Twitter.

The apps have since been removed from the Google Play Store, but if you downloaded software before that, you'll need to remove the apps from your device.

Now, these apps have been pulled from the Google Play Store. But if you miss these alerts, here are the apps you need to be wary of:

• Now QRcode Scan.

• EmojiOne Keyboard.

• Battery Charging Animations Battery Wallpaper.

• Dazzling Keyboard.

• Volume Booster Louder Sound Equalizer.

• Super Hero-Effect.

• Classic Emoji Keyboard.
