In an era where technology permeates every aspect of our lives, even the sacred vows of marriage are not exempt.

A Guide to Remote Weddings in the UAE

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has embraced the digital age with open arms, offering couples the convenience of remote weddings. The Dubai Courts, in particular, introduced innovative services in October 2023, revolutionizing the matrimonial landscape with 'Remote Civil Marriage' and 'Digital Attestation.'

Remote Civil Marriage by Dubai Courts

To embark on this virtual marital journey, certain criteria must be met. Both parties involved must be unmarried non-Muslims, with at least one being a resident of Dubai holding an Emirates ID card. The couple must also meet the age requirement of at least 21 years old. Additionally, various documents, such as an authenticated certificate of social status from respective embassies and certifications from relevant authorities, need to be submitted in PDF format. The Dubai Courts have streamlined this process with an automated system, simplifying the authorization, certification, and correction stages.

The Dubai Courts have automated the procedure, which has made the authorization, certification, and rectification processes simpler. In order to get the authorized electronic contract, the customer must communicate with recognized centers, make an electronic request, and pay the necessary costs.

Video-conferencing matrimonial service in Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) takes the digital matrimonial experience a step further by introducing a video conferencing service. Residents can electronically apply for a marriage contract, receive approvals, and complete payment procedures online. The convenience extends to booking remote appointments for signing the contract using video-conference technology.

Application Process for Digital Weddings

To avail of the digital service:

  1. UAE Pass: Applicants must use UAE Pass for the digital wedding service.
  2. Application: Apply for the marriage contract electronically and await approval.
  3. Payment: Complete payment procedures online.
  4. Appointment: Schedule a remote appointment for contract signing using WebEx.
  5. Finalization: Receive the final marriage contract electronically with legally binding digital signatures from both parties.

As the UAE embraces technological advancements, the institution of marriage undergoes a digital transformation, making the once-traditional 'I Do' accessible with just a few clicks and video conference appointments.
