UAE Launches Liver Disease Prevention and Education Center

Burjeel Holdings, with headquarters in Abu Dhabi, has constructed a brand new, cutting-edge facility. By emphasizing the significance of healthy lifestyle choices, including a balanced diet, frequent exercise, abstinence from alcohol, fighting against obesity, and avoiding needless pharmaceuticals, it aims to educate and engage community members about liver health.

Dr. Jazzar, the renowned American Board-certified gastroenterologist with more than 25 years of experience, emphasized the liver’s vital role in metabolizing substances consumed, including food, alcohol, smoking, and medication. As we aim to adhere to New Year’s resolutions that promote a healthy lifestyle and combat obesity, we can also prioritize liver health, said Dr. Jazzar, Consultant, Gastroenterology, Burjeel Day Surgery Centre.

The majority of liver problems can be avoided. According to a prominent subject-matter expert, frequent testing for early diagnosis is crucial, but a late diagnosis poses a significant obstacle to effective therapy. The liver filters out harmful compounds from your blood as one of its several vital duties. It is also one of the biggest organs in your body. The ability to regenerate is unique to this organ.

According to Dr. Ahmad Jazzar, who has authored or co-authored over 30 articles and was one of the few specialists to draft and publish the first UAE consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel illnesses, the organ is special but should not be irreparably destroyed.

"Most liver disorders don't manifest any symptoms until they're advanced. To rule out other possibilities, a physical examination is the way to go. Dr. Jazzar lamented the public's ignorance of liver disease, its symptoms, and the need for early diagnosis during the inauguration of the Jazzar Gastrointestinal and Liver Disease Centre at the Burjeel Day Surgery Centre on Al Reem Island.

The liver plays a crucial role in metabolizing substances consumed, including food, alcohol, smoking, and medication. Dr. Jazzar emphasized the importance of periodic tests for early diagnosis, as liver diseases often progress without showing symptoms until the final stages. Despite this, there is a lack of awareness among the general public about the significance of liver health and the importance of early detection.
