Police found one million euros in cash hidden in a carton in the town of Bad Bentheim, western Germany, which led the police to discover a possible money smuggler behind the incident.
The German Federal Police discovered the money on Saturday evening in a truckload coming from the Netherlands. A police spokesman said on Monday that the box weighed 31 kilograms. As a result, the police opened an investigation with the Hungarian truck driver (55 years), on suspicion of his involvement in a money laundering crime. The customs office in Essen is conducting investigations to find out the source of the confiscated funds and the purpose of their use.
